Appointments and Booking
You can book by WhatsApp or calling us on 04-572-3755, or by emailing [email protected]. We recommend starting with a free 15-minute consultation call so we can understand your needs and match you with the right clinician.

Standard therapy sessions are 50 to 60 minutes. Assessment sessions may be longer - typically 90 minutes to 3 hours depending on the type of evaluation. We will give you a clear indication of session length when you book.
Please provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. This allows us to offer the appointment to another client. Our full cancellation policy will be shared at the time of booking.

Confidentiality and Privacy
Yes. All personal and clinical information is protected by professional ethics and UAE legal regulations. We will never share your information with anyone - including family members - without your explicit written consent, except in the specific circumstances required by UAE law or when there is immediate risk of serious harm.
No. We will not disclose that you are a client, or anything discussed in sessions, to your employer, family, or anyone else without your consent. Your attendance and all clinical information are strictly confidential.
There are limited legal exceptions where we may be required to share information - including when there is a serious and immediate risk of harm to you or another person, or when required by a UAE court order. These situations are rare. We will always discuss confidentiality fully at the start of our work together.
Virtual Sessions
Yes. We offer secure video therapy sessions within Dubai. Virtual sessions are available for most of our therapy services. Some assessment types require in-person attendance - we will advise you when booking.
For most therapy types, research shows that virtual therapy is equally effective as in-person therapy. Many clients find the convenience of virtual sessions makes it easier to attend consistently - which is one of the most important factors in achieving good outcomes.
You need a device with a camera and microphone (smartphone, tablet, or computer) and a stable internet connection. We use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. We will send you a link before your session.
Children and Families
We work with children from age 2 onwards, through adolescence and into adulthood. There is no upper age limit. Our clinicians have specialist training in working with specific developmental stages.
It depends on the child's age and the type of service. For young children, parents are often present or actively involved. For older children and teens, we typically see them individually for the therapeutic work while also providing parents with regular updates and guidance. We always establish a clear plan with families at the outset.
Yes. Our assessment reports are comprehensive, professionally formatted, and meet the requirements of schools across Dubai and the UAE for academic accommodations such as extended time, use of a reader or scribe, and other support. We can also liaise directly with schools on your behalf.

Not quite. Submitting the report is the essential first step, but it needs to go to the right person, the school's SENCO or inclusion coordinator, not the class teacher or general administration. Once submitted, you should follow up in writing to confirm receipt and to formally request both an Individual Education Plan (IEP) and, if your child is in an exam year, the submission of an access arrangement application to the relevant exam board. Schools are required to act under KHDA's Inclusive Education Policy, but the process does not move automatically. Parents who document their submissions and follow up proactively get faster results. It depends on the exam board and the school's own SEN policy. CAIE and IBO generally accept reports up to three years old at the time of the examination. College Board (AP) applies similar recency standards but reviews them periodically. Some schools have their own policies that are stricter than the exam board's minimum. If your child's report is approaching the two-year mark, contact the school's SENCO now to confirm whether it will still be accepted, and if not, begin the process of an updated assessment before the exam window closes. A comprehensive autism evaluation at CAYA World typically spans two to four sessions over one to three weeks. The first session focuses on gathering developmental history from parents and initial observations (approximately two to three hours). A subsequent session involves direct structured observation of the child using the ADOS-2 (approximately one hour). Supplementary cognitive or adaptive behaviour testing, if indicated, adds one to two further sessions. The written report is typically ready within five to seven working days of the final appointment. Read the full guide: Autism Assessment for Children in Dubai: How the Diagnosis Process Works
Two years old is not too early. For example, the ADOS-2 Module T is specifically designed for toddlers aged 12 to 30 months, and reliable autism diagnosis at 18 to 24 months is well established in the research literature. Dubai's Clinical Practice Guideline recommends assessment within two to four weeks of referral for children under six. If your paediatrician, health visitor, or nursery has raised developmental concerns, contact a licensed specialist now rather than waiting. Read the full guide: Autism Assessment for Children in Dubai: How the Diagnosis Process Works
The ADOS-2 is designed to be engaging, not stressful. Most children experience it as time playing and interacting with an unfamiliar adult in a comfortable clinical room. Sessions are structured around the child's developmental level, the module selection ensures activities are appropriate for your child specifically. Clinicians at CAYA World are trained to follow the child's pace, use transition warnings, and adapt the session if distress arises. Parents remain nearby, and for very young children a caregiver's presence can be accommodated where the module permits. Dubai schools operating under KHDA oversight can accept assessment reports issued overseas, provided the report meets the documentation standards expected locally. This means the report must include a DSM-5 or ICD-11 diagnosis with severity level, the assessing clinician's qualifications and registration details, a current functional profile, and specific educational recommendations. If your overseas report is strong on diagnosis but thin on educational guidance, a supplementary letter from a DHA-licensed psychologist in Dubai can strengthen it without requiring a full re-assessment. Read the full guide: Getting an Autism School Report Accepted in Dubai: What Parents Need to Know
The six components Dubai schools consistently require are: a formal DSM-5 or ICD-11 diagnosis with date and severity level; the assessing clinician's credentials and licence details; a functional profile covering communication, social interaction, sensory processing, and adaptive behaviour; standardised assessment scores where administered; specific named educational accommodations; and a language and communication profile. Reports that omit the educational recommendations section most commonly cause delays, as schools need named starting points for IEP planning rather than clinical descriptions alone. Under the KHDA Inclusive Education Policy, private schools in Dubai must complete an entry educational needs assessment and implement an IEP within six weeks of a Student of Determination's admission. The six-week clock is most defensibly started from the date of formal written submission of the assessment report to the school's SENCO, which is why submitting by email and requesting written confirmation of receipt matters. If the six-week window passes without an IEP in place, parents can escalate formally to KHDA's Inclusion and Special Education division. The WPPSI-IV is standardised for children from 2 years 6 months, meaning cognitive assessment is possible from pre-school age. The WISC-V is appropriate from age 6 through 16 years 11 months. For children above 17, the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-IV) is the standard instrument. At CAYA World, we assess children across the developmental range, from nursery-age referrals through to adolescents preparing for university applications. The right instrument is selected based on the child's age at the time of testing. An IQ test and a cognitive assessment refer to the same clinical process, the term "IQ test" is the popular shorthand, while "cognitive assessment" is the clinical descriptor. What has changed significantly over the past two decades is how the results are interpreted. The Full Scale IQ (FSIQ) is one composite score produced by the assessment, but contemporary clinical practice focuses equally on the five index scores, verbal comprehension, visual-spatial reasoning, fluid reasoning, working memory, and processing speed, because these reveal the pattern of a child's thinking, not just an overall ability estimate. A clinician who reports only the FSIQ and stops there is missing the clinical picture. Yes, provided the report is produced by a licensed psychologist at a DHA-regulated clinic. Under KHDA guidance, Dubai schools can use external assessment reports to inform learning support, IEP development, and exam access arrangements. Reports should be on clinic letterhead, signed by the assessing clinician with their license details, and include a clear narrative interpretation and specific recommendations, not only raw scores. Schools may have their own policies on report currency (how recent the report must be) for specific applications such as annual exam access renewals; it is worth confirming this directly with your child's Learning Support Coordinator. A thorough dyslexia assessment at CAYA World typically involves three to five hours of direct testing with your child, usually spread across one or two sessions. After the testing is complete, the psychologist scores and interprets the results and writes a full report. This process takes approximately two weeks. We then schedule a feedback session with parents to walk through the findings and answer questions before the report is issued. Read the full guide: Dyslexia Assessment in Dubai: Signs, What Testing Involves, and How to Get School Support
A formal dyslexia assessment using standardised tools is most reliable from age six onwards, when formal reading instruction has been established and there is a basis for comparison with age-expected norms. Phonological processing screening can be conducted from age four. We also assess teenagers and adults; dyslexia does not resolve with age, and many adults in Dubai seek assessment for the first time when they recognise the pattern in their own child. Yes. Our assessment reports are produced by licensed psychologists using internationally standardised tools and are formatted to meet the documentation requirements of Dubai schools operating under KHDA, as well as the access arrangements requirements of Cambridge Assessment, the IB Organisation, and College Board. We are familiar with the SEND processes at the major British, American, and IB curriculum schools in Dubai and write our reports accordingly. Seeing a Psychologist in Dubai: Practical Questions

Answers drawn from our in-depth clinical guides. Each one links to the full article.

You do not need a referral to access adult ADHD assessment in Dubai through CAYA World. You can contact the clinic directly, by phone, WhatsApp, or email, and the team will guide you through the process. Assessment is conducted by licensed psychologists and typically involves a clinical interview, standardised rating scales, and where indicated, cognitive testing. The assessment produces a written diagnostic report usable with a psychiatrist for medication evaluation or with an employer for workplace accommodation requests. Read the full guide: ADHD in Adults: Why So Many People in Dubai Are Only Getting Diagnosed Now
No. Childhood school records are useful but not required for an adult ADHD diagnosis. The DSM-5 requires evidence that symptoms were present before age 12, but this evidence can be gathered through clinical interview, your own memories of school, descriptions from family members, or any available records from childhood. Many adults in Dubai grew up across multiple countries and have no consolidated academic history. An experienced psychologist can work through this. What matters is the quality of the clinical interview and the thoroughness of the assessment. Read the full guide: ADHD in Adults: Why So Many People in Dubai Are Only Getting Diagnosed Now
ICD-11 PTSD is defined by three clusters: re-experiencing the traumatic event in the present, avoidance of trauma-related stimuli, and a persistent sense of current threat. ICD-11 complex PTSD requires all three of those criteria PLUS three additional disturbances in self-organisation, affect dysregulation, a persistently negative self-concept, and difficulty sustaining close relationships. CPTSD typically develops from trauma that was prolonged, repeated, and inescapable, rather than a single incident. The DSM-5 does not yet include CPTSD as a separate diagnosis; it is currently an ICD-11 classification. No. EMDR and Somatic Experiencing both process traumatic memories without requiring detailed verbal narration. In EMDR, you hold the memory in awareness while bilateral stimulation is applied; extensive description is not part of the protocol. TF-CBT does include a trauma narrative component, but this is constructed gradually and collaboratively, never as a sudden recounting. Your psychologist will always prepare you before any memory work begins and will not push you to disclose more than you are ready for. No. UAE Federal Law No. 10 of 2023, in force since May 2024, legally protects the confidentiality of mental health treatment. Your psychologist cannot share information about your sessions with your employer, HR department, or any third party without your written consent. Health insurers may receive a diagnostic billing code if you claim through insurance, but session content remains private. The same law prohibits employment discrimination based on mental health status. Read the full guide: Mental Health in Dubai: A Practical Guide for New Arrivals and Expats
Yes. At CAYA World, you can access postnatal mental health assessment and therapy directly, no GP referral is required. You can contact us by phone, WhatsApp, or email and be seen promptly. If medication is indicated as part of your treatment, we will coordinate with your GP or a psychiatrist, but the psychological therapy component does not require a referral to begin. Many mothers find it easier to start with a psychology appointment and involve their GP from there if needed. Read the full guide: Postnatal Mental Health in Dubai: What New Mothers Need to Know
No. Under UAE Federal Law No. 10 of 2008, licensed psychologists are required to maintain confidentiality for their clients, including teenage clients. The content of sessions is not routinely shared with parents. The exception is serious safety concerns, if a clinician believes a teenager is at risk of significant harm, that information will be communicated appropriately. Confidentiality should be explained clearly to both the teenager and the parent before sessions begin. Read the full guide: Therapy for Teenagers in Dubai: A Practical Guide for Parents and Teens
Use the DHA's Sheryan portal (services.dha.gov.ae) to run two separate searches: one for the clinic as a facility and one for the individual clinician by name. Both must return an active, current licence for the clinic to be operating compliantly. Clinics inside Dubai Healthcare City are regulated by the DHCC Authority instead, their practitioner directory is the correct check for those providers. Verification takes under ten minutes and is the single most reliable indicator of a legitimate clinical setting. Read the full guide: Psychology Clinic in Dubai: What to Look For Before You Book
In Dubai, a clinical psychologist holds a recognised postgraduate qualification in clinical psychology with extensive supervised clinical hours, and must pass Dataflow primary source verification and a Prometric examination to hold a DHA professional licence. A doctorate is not required for DHA licensing. A therapist or counsellor may hold a master's degree or a shorter postgraduate diploma, the title is less regulated and describes a wider range of training levels. For assessment work, diagnostic reports, or complex clinical presentations, a DHA-licensed clinical psychologist is the appropriate provider. For structured therapy in non-complex presentations, a licensed master's-level clinician may be clinically appropriate. For structured therapy protocols, CBT for anxiety and depression being the most studied, the evidence base shows no statistically significant outcome difference between video-delivered and in-person delivery when the clinical protocol is equivalent. However, formal psychological assessments (ADHD, autism, psychoeducational testing) require in-person attendance because standardised test administration cannot be validly conducted remotely. Language access and therapeutic alliance quality are better predictors of outcome than modality. Confirm with the clinic whether your specific presenting concern is appropriate for online work before booking a remote session. Anxiety Therapy in Dubai

Answers drawn from our in-depth clinical guides. Each one links to the full article. See our Anxiety Therapy in Dubai service.

No. In Dubai, only a licensed psychiatrist can legally prescribe anxiety medication for children, including SSRIs. Psychologists, counsellors, and GPs without specialist input cannot prescribe psychotropic medications under UAE federal law. The standard pathway is a psychological assessment first, followed by a referral to a child psychiatrist if medication is indicated. Read the full guide: Anxiety Medication for Children in Dubai: What Parents Need to Know
The difference is substantial. A seven-year-old does not yet have the cognitive development for standard CBT's thought-monitoring and restructuring. Therapy at this age is primarily play-based and parent-mediated, with heavy investment in parent coaching. A teenager can engage in structured CBT much as an adult would: identifying anxious thoughts, evaluating evidence, and building a graduated exposure hierarchy. Adolescents also need greater autonomy in the therapeutic relationship, therapy must feel like something they are choosing, not something being done to them. The content of what a child shares in sessions is generally kept confidential. This is essential for the child to feel safe. However, the therapist will always share information that relates to the child's safety, and will regularly update parents on treatment progress, goals, and how to support their child at home. At CAYA World, the specific confidentiality framework is explained clearly at intake so both the child and parents understand what to expect before therapy begins. Read the full guide: Anxiety Therapy for Children in Dubai: What to Expect at Every Stage
Yes, the evidence is clear on this. A meta-analysis of 76 controlled studies found that psychological interventions delivered in a client's native language were twice as effective as the same interventions in a second language (Griner & Smith, 2006). The effect goes beyond simple comprehension. Working in your first language means emotional memory networks are more directly accessible, the therapeutic alliance forms faster, and the clinician receives a more accurate signal of your actual experience, rather than a version filtered through second-language processing. For Arabic-speaking clients in Dubai, cultural fluency from the psychologist multiplies this benefit further. Read the full guide: Arabic-Speaking Psychologist in Dubai: What to Look For and Why It Matters
You should be able to speak in whatever Arabic feels most natural to you. Modern Standard Arabic (Fusha) is nobody's mother tongue in daily emotional speech, your dialect is where your real language lives. That said, dialect coverage varies across Arabic-speaking psychologists. Before booking, ask directly which dialects the clinician is genuinely comfortable conducting full therapy sessions in. Emirati Gulf Arabic, Egyptian, Levantine (Syrian, Lebanese, Palestinian, Jordanian), Iraqi, and Maghrebi Arabic differ substantially in idiom and register. A good psychologist will tell you honestly where their dialect strengths lie, rather than claiming blanket Arabic fluency. Clinically, the qualification standards across all three regulatory bodies are broadly comparable, each requires formal mental health training and enforces continuing education requirements. The practical distinction is mainly about where the clinician practises: DHA-licensed practitioners work in standard Dubai clinics; CDA-licensed practitioners typically work in community or social care settings; DHCCA practitioners operate within the Dubai Healthcare City free zone. For most clients, what matters most is that active licensure can be verified through the relevant portal, not which of the three authorities issued it. It depends on the child's age and what the therapist is working on that session. For children aged six to eight, a parent is often present for the first ten to fifteen minutes and the final ten minutes, with the middle portion one-to-one with the therapist. For children aged nine and older, sessions are typically one-to-one, with the parent joining for the final five to ten minutes to receive a brief update and coaching input. Dedicated parent coaching sessions, usually at sessions one, four, seven, and ten, are scheduled separately and are solely for the parent, without the child present. Yes, in several concrete ways. CBT is structured and time-limited, with a session agenda, written homework tasks, and measurable goals agreed at the start of treatment. General counselling tends to be more open-ended and supportive, following the client's lead without a fixed technique sequence. Psychodynamic therapy explores patterns rooted in early experience over longer timeframes. None of these are inferior, they serve different needs: but they are not CBT. If you have been told you are receiving CBT and sessions have no agenda, no homework, and no thought records after the first few weeks, it is worth asking your therapist to clarify the model they are using. CBT can be delivered effectively online. A 2024 pooled analysis found that guided internet-delivered CBT produced 59.3% remission rates for anxiety disorders, demonstrating that digital delivery does not substantially reduce efficacy compared to in-person therapy when the session structure is maintained. In Dubai, online therapy is permitted under DHA regulations provided the clinician is DHA-licensed and the session meets documentation standards. At CAYA World, we offer both in-person sessions at our Palm Jumeirah clinic and online sessions for clients who cannot attend in person or who prefer the flexibility. Autism Assessment in Dubai

Answers drawn from our in-depth clinical guides. Each one links to the full article. See our Autism Assessment in Dubai service.

A thorough dual assessment should include a structured parent developmental history, direct assessment of the child using tools adapted for autistic populations, at least one ASD-specific anxiety measure (such as the ASC-ASD), a teacher questionnaire, and a sensory profile. The written report should formulate how autism and anxiety interact for this specific child, not list generic features of each, and should include differentiated recommendations for home, school, and therapy. In Dubai, the report should be structured for KHDA submission if the family needs school accommodations, and should be produced by a DHA-licensed clinician for regulatory validity. Read the full guide: Autism and Anxiety in Children: Why They So Often Appear Together and What to Do
There is no fixed statutory timeline under the KHDA framework, but most schools aim to have an initial Student Learning Support Plan drafted within four to six weeks of receiving a formal assessment report. Submitting the report promptly and requesting a formal meeting, rather than waiting for the school to initiate contact, consistently produces faster outcomes. If the school delays without explanation, the KHDA has a formal process for escalating concerns about inclusion provision. Read the full guide: Autism Diagnosis Dubai: What Happens After the Assessment and What to Do Next
An autism diagnosis does not directly affect a child's UAE residency visa. Children are sponsored on their parent's residency visa, and a developmental diagnosis is not grounds for visa refusal or cancellation under current UAE immigration policy. If you have specific legal questions about residency and medical records, consult a UAE immigration lawyer directly. The DSM-5 classifies autism spectrum disorder across three levels based on the amount of support a person needs. Level 1 describes individuals who require some support; Level 2 describes individuals requiring substantial support with more significant communication and behavioural challenges; Level 3 describes individuals requiring very substantial support, often including limited functional communication. The level reflects current support needs and can change with intervention and development. Read the full guide: Autism Diagnosis Dubai: What Happens After the Assessment and What to Do Next
Autism can be reliably diagnosed from age 2, and in some cases earlier where signs are clear and consistent. In Dubai, autism assessments must be conducted by a licensed clinical psychologist to be accepted by schools and health authorities. The assessment uses standardised tools, the ADOS-2 is the gold-standard observational measure, alongside developmental history, parent interview, and cognitive testing where appropriate. The first appointment at CAYA World is an assessment session, not a treatment session. It can run 50–90 minutes, depending on need, and involves a detailed parent interview covering the child's developmental history, language exposure, and communication at home; structured observation and play with the child; and, depending on age and presenting concerns, standardised assessments. The clinician is watching how the child produces sounds, combines words, follows instructions, uses language socially, and engages with the task. Following the session, parents receive a written report with a language profile, diagnostic impressions, and specific therapy recommendations. Subsequent sessions move into targeted intervention based on that report. Read the full guide: Speech Therapy for Children in Dubai: Milestones, Red Flags, and What to Expect
ADHD Therapy for Children and Teens in Dubai

Answers drawn from our in-depth clinical guides. Each one links to the full article. See our ADHD Therapy for Children and Teens in Dubai service.

The first step after diagnosis is a post-assessment consultation with your child's assessing psychologist to review the diagnostic report and agree on a therapy plan. For children under six, parent management training is the evidence-backed first-line intervention. For children aged six and above, a combined approach, PMT running alongside child-directed CBT, is typically recommended. At CAYA World, this planning appointment follows directly from the diagnostic assessment; families leave with a written therapy roadmap, not just a diagnosis letter. Read the full guide: ADHD Therapy for Children in Dubai: What Parents Need to Know After Diagnosis
There is no minimum age. At CAYA World, we see children from age three onwards. Assessments for developmental concerns such as autism or early language delay can and should happen as early as possible. For very young children, the majority of clinical work involves parent coaching and structured observation rather than direct child sessions. From approximately age four, children can participate meaningfully in play-based and structured assessment activities. Therapy approaches are adapted for each age group and developmental stage. Read the full guide: Child Psychologist in Dubai: When to Seek Help and What to Expect
No. You can contact CAYA World directly as a self-referring parent, no paediatrician or school referral is required for a private clinic appointment. If your child's paediatrician has already conducted physical investigations relevant to the presenting concern, sharing those reports is helpful and avoids duplication. If your family's health insurance requires a GP or paediatrician referral for reimbursement, check your policy before booking, the clinical pathway and the insurance pathway sometimes differ. "Students of determination" is the KHDA's classification for children whose neurodevelopmental or physical conditions entitle them to formal educational accommodations, including an Individual Education Plan (IEP), curriculum modifications, and specialist support. Qualification is not based on the severity of a condition. It is based on having a formal diagnostic report from a DHA-approved clinician. If your child has a confirmed diagnosis of ADHD, autism, dyslexia, or a related neurodevelopmental condition, they very likely qualify. Contact your school's inclusion coordinator with the diagnostic report to initiate the process. Read the full guide: Raising Neurodivergent Children in Dubai: A Practical Guide for Parents
Depression Treatment in Dubai

Answers drawn from our in-depth clinical guides. Each one links to the full article. See our Depression Treatment in Dubai service.

Burnout is real, clinically defined, and classified by the WHO, but it is not a medical disorder. The ICD-11 classifies it as an occupational phenomenon (code QD85), defined by three dimensions: energy exhaustion, mental distance from one's job, and reduced professional efficacy. This means it is a legitimate clinical construct with a structured assessment and evidence-based treatment pathway. It is not a synonym for stress, tiredness, or unhappiness at work, and calling it a buzzword understates a pattern that, when sustained, carries serious consequences for both wellbeing and physical health. Read the full guide: Burnout in Dubai: When Work Stress Becomes a Clinical Problem
CBT teaches you to identify and reshape the thought-behaviour cycles that maintain depression. Behavioural activation focuses on systematically reintroducing rewarding activity to break the withdrawal pattern that deepens low mood, particularly effective when energy and motivation are severely depleted. ACT builds psychological flexibility by changing your relationship to distressing thoughts rather than their content, and is often well-suited to recurrent depression or loss of meaning. A skilled psychologist selects the approach based on your clinical formulation. At CAYA World, your treatment plan is explained and agreed with you before active intervention begins. Read the full guide: What to Expect from Depression Therapy in Dubai: Approaches, Sessions and How to Choose
No. A diagnosis is not a prerequisite for therapy, and most licensed psychologists do not require one before you book. Persistent distress, relationship difficulties, a major life transition, or simply the sense that something isn't working as well as it should are all valid reasons to access professional support. Depression prevalence in UAE adult samples ranges from 12.5% to 28.6%, and the majority of those individuals are not formally diagnosed. Seeking help before a condition is formally categorised is clinically appropriate, and often produces better outcomes than waiting for things to deteriorate. Sessions at a private licensed clinic in Dubai are confidential. Session content is not shared with employers, visa sponsors, or government authorities as a routine matter. The narrow exceptions, imminent risk of serious harm, specific legal orders, are consistent with international clinical standards and are explained by your psychologist at the outset. Seeking therapy does not appear on residency records and has no documented impact on employment or visa status. This concern is particularly common among expats in Dubai, and the answer is consistently reassuring: your sessions are your own. A comprehensive ADHD assessment at CAYA World typically involves two to three clinical sessions plus a feedback meeting with parents. The parent interview runs approximately 50–90 minutes; the direct child assessment session typically runs 50–120 minutes. Report writing takes one to two weeks. Most families complete the full process within three to four weeks of the initial intake. Read the full guide: What Happens During an ADHD Assessment in Dubai?
For a report to be accepted by a KHDA-regulated school in Dubai as the basis for accommodations or an Individual Education Plan, it must be produced by a licensed psychologist. Reports from overseas clinicians are not automatically accepted and may require a DHA countersignature or local re-evaluation. At CAYA World, our reports are written to meet KHDA formatting standards and are produced by our licensed clinical team. Read the full guide: What Happens During an ADHD Assessment in Dubai?
An ADHD assessment focuses on attention, executive function, and DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for ADHD. A psychoeducational assessment is broader, evaluating intellectual ability, academic achievement, and specific learning profiles such as dyslexia or dyscalculia. If the primary concern is attention and behaviour, an ADHD assessment is the right starting point. If there are also concerns about reading, writing, or overall academic progress, a psychoeducational assessment may be more appropriate. CAYA World's clinical team will advise during the intake call. OCD Therapy in Dubai

You can absolutely start therapy during Ramadan. An initial assessment or first session is not cognitively demanding in the way that intensive therapy can be, and starting during the month means you have already established a therapeutic relationship by the time Eid arrives. Many people find that the post-Eid period is when they most need support, and having already begun means you are not starting from scratch at that point. At CAYA World in Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, we accommodate flexible scheduling during Ramadan to fit the altered daily rhythm. Not immediately, and not without your agreement. ERP exposures are built collaboratively using a hierarchy, a ranked list of triggers ordered from least to most distressing. Treatment begins at a level that is challenging but manageable, not at the most feared situation. For contamination OCD, early exposures might involve touching a door handle without washing hands immediately afterwards, before progressing to more challenging situations. Every step is agreed with your psychologist in advance. The process is gradual and paced to your progress, not a single confrontation with your worst fear. Standard CBT for anxiety typically involves examining the evidence for and against a worried thought, a technique called cognitive restructuring. For OCD, this approach can inadvertently function as a mental compulsion, providing temporary reassurance that reinforces the obsession-compulsion cycle rather than breaking it. ERP does not attempt to argue you out of your obsession. Instead, it changes your relationship to the obsession by demonstrating through repeated experience that the feared outcome does not occur and that distress is tolerable without performing the compulsion. The evidence base for ERP in OCD is significantly stronger than for generic CBT. Read the full guide: OCD Therapy in Dubai: What ERP Actually Involves and Why It Works

Couples counselling typically refers to structured sessions focused on improving communication and resolving conflict between two partners. Relationship therapy is a broader clinical term that includes couples work but also covers pre-marital preparation, co-parenting arrangements, family-of-origin pattern work, and individual therapy focused on relational history. At CAYA World, both terms describe clinically structured work rather than generic advice, the distinction matters less than the quality and depth of what actually happens in the room. You can absolutely begin individually. Many people start relationship therapy alone, whether because their partner is unwilling to attend, because they want to understand their own patterns before bringing a partner in, or because they are single and processing their relationship history. Individual work on relational patterns is clinically valid and often the right starting point. If your goal is to work on a specific relationship together, joint sessions are typically more effective once the assessment has been completed, but the path to that can begin with one person. No. Some of the most productive relationship therapy happens when the relationship is broadly functional but the couple senses something drifting, less connection, more mild irritability, less physical closeness than there used to be. Pre-marital counselling is by definition preventive rather than crisis-driven. Life transition work, the arrival of a child, a major relocation, a career change, is best done before the transition fully destabilises the relationship rather than after. At CAYA World, we actively encourage couples to seek support before reaching breaking point, because earlier intervention requires less repair work and produces faster results. Yes, clinically meaningful. A speech delay refers to difficulty producing sounds correctly for the child's age, while a language disorder involves difficulties with the structure, meaning, or use of language itself. A child can have age-appropriate language comprehension and expression while still having a speech sound disorder (or vice versa). The distinction matters because the intervention target is entirely different. At CAYA World, our assessment identifies which area, or which combination of areas, is affected before any treatment is recommended. Our speech language pathologists assess in English and can use clinical tools appropriate for bilingual and multilingual children. For assessments requiring formal standardised measures in Arabic, we are transparent about this from the initial enquiry. We will tell you clearly what we can assess directly and where we may supplement with language-neutral or dynamic assessment tools. We will never apply English monolingual norms to a child whose primary language is Arabic; the clinical and ethical consequences of misclassification are too significant. Effectively, yes. While some schools will implement informal accommodations, a formal autism diagnosis from a DHA-licensed assessor, paired with People of Determination registration, is what triggers a child's recognised entitlement to an Individual Education Plan, learning support, and reasonable adjustments under the KHDA's SEND framework. Without formal documentation, accommodations are discretionary. With it, they are a right the school is accountable for delivering. Families who delay diagnosis often find their child has missed months or years of structured support they were entitled to. Read the full guide: What Is Autism?
